Elopement Wedding at Mammoth Mountain
This wedding was one of the most challenging, yet rewarding weddings that I have ever had the pleasure of covering. When Elizabeth and Derek Moard reached out to me for documenting their elopement on Mammoth Mountain, I immediately jumped at the chance to join them on this amazing journey! After a long five-hour drive, I was able to join the couple with their family and friends for a pre-wedding hangout at John’s Pizza Works where they had some of the most delicious pizza I have ever tasted. Afterwards we went to settle in at the warm and cozy Mammoth Mountain Inn. The original plan was to have the ceremony on top of the iconic Dave’s Run, however, the freezing temperatures and snow storm caused the wedding planning to take a pivot, and the ceremony was then moved inside of a community building halfway up Mammoth Mountain, where the only way to get there was driving up in a snowcat. After the wedding was over, we enjoyed an intimate dinner back at the inn with hopes the weather would clear the next day and we could take our portraits. Luckily, God’s favor shined upon us and we experienced clear skies the next morning! The wedding party then put on their snowboarding outfits and we made our way back up top on a ski lift to Dave’s Run, and afterwards we took formal portraits at the iconic Lake Convict, located right next to the Lake Convict Resort. This entire experience really pushed me in my efforts to provide the best photography experience possible. Moving in freezing temperatures, having my car covered entirely in snow, causing me to shovel my way out, to then having cold ice blowing right into your face trying to make your way through the snow to the snowcat, it was rough. Was it worth it to photograph this destination wedding for these two lovebirds? Absolutely! And I can’t wait to photograph another wedding here in Mammoth Lakes!
